Being that venison and rabbit are both PROTEIN-based (being they are
MEAT!!), AND expensive, I'd be seriously questioning your vet (If the
vet is the one supplying the meat to you, I'd be more than merely
QUESTIONING, I'd be downright SUSPICIOUS of his motive!) :P

Cats NEED protein even more than dogs -- dogs are more omniverous, while
cats are nearly purely carnivorous! :)

Cats NEED protein for their best health & growth. . . :(
I'm with Mike on your getting a second opinion(different vet) but you
should do something, especially if it's affecting your cat's
weight/health. . .

Maybe your vet just worded things badly, and it's not "protein", per se,
he's allergic to, but his former SOURCES of protein! :)
