Digital signatures (like UUencoded binary files) are made up entirely of
low-order, printable ASCII characters, precisely so they can be sent via
media (like the Internet and Fido) that can't use 8-bit, high-order
characters. Encryption/decryption is done by the users. The medium of
transmission is transparent to it. As far as the nets are concerned, it's
just another text file....
