subject: The BEST Kang Story

Hi, Dave.
DJ> Check out Hulk 135 ,from january,1971,for a most EXCELLENT kang
DJ> story, that ranks as a hulk classic.VERY well written! The hulk
DJ> gets chumped by kang, to time travel back to 1917,to destroy a
DJ> super gun, and if he succeds,Banners grandfather will perish from
DJ> that gun, resulting in no hulk,& no avengers formed as well!
Yeah, you're right... it is a classic. My favorite Kang story
though has still gotta be Giant-Size Avengers #2. It featured the
climax of the whole Celestial Madonna storyline... and the noble death
of the Swordsman (my all-time favorite Marvel character). It also
resolved the Vision/Scarlet Witch/Mantis/Swordsman quadrangle that had
been so prevalent in the series up till that point.
DJ> This is the 2nd & last apperance of Herb Trimpes WW1 hero, the
DJ> phantom eagle, premered in marvel superheroes #16, 1968.
I don't think that's true, Dave. The Phantom Eagle recently
appeared in one of the Access mini-series where he encountered Enemy
Ace. I think he may also have had a 8-page story (or more) in "Marvel
Comics Presents" too. They weren't "big" appearances, but the
character hasn't been completely forgotten either.
DJ> Amazing that such a story, could be fit into just ONE 19 page
DJ> story!
Marvel really knew how to do it right back then, didn't
they... I still think Marvel didn't get any better than the titles
they were publishing in the '60s & especially the '70s.
Talk to you later.
David
