subject: socket serving

I just set up a LAN between my computer and my sister's computer. What I'd
like to do is give her computer unrestricted Internet access via my cable
modem link.
From browsing a few hundred messages, I've got the notion that I need to set
up a SOCKS server, along with a DNS.
Well, I've got a DNS set up (port of BIND), and it appears to be working from
my sister's computer. She uses Win95, so there's not nslookup, but a ping of
domain names shows that the numeric IP is being resolved, even though it's
unreachable at this point.
I just found SOCKS5 from NEC, and started it without any sort of error, but
was unable to test because my sister's computer is unavailable for testing
right now.
I anticipate that I'll figure out how to get it working, but in case I'm
overconfident, I'd appreciate some basic information that I should know about
configuring a SOCKS server, especially what the configuration file should
ook
like (the documentation assumes quite a bit). I currently have just:
permit n - 172.16.0.21
The latter address is what I've assigned her machine.
So, is there something I seem to be missing that's important?
Also, what limitations will this have? Does a SOCKS server allow the use of
any TCP/IP client, or only ones that can recognize a SOCKS server? I also
plan on building a separate server machine later on, and don't want to be
limited in what kind of TCP/IP clients I can run on my personal machine.
I appreciate any information anyone can provide.
