Really??!! Hello Russia and thanks for following our discussions, but I
hardly feel godlike, and don't believe the others here are looking for a
promotion either! Sure am glad that someone is listening though!

I suspect that this is true, and have been getting increasingly irate
at the quality level of that discussion here. There does seem to be some
efforts to get an official Car Audio echo going which will allow us to
exclude that conversation from this echo, other than refering those
interested the topic to the appropriate echo as a recommendation.

OK, Greg, Matt or anyone else, I suggest that you get a Car Audio echo
elisted quickly. I am taking Johns suggestion under advisement and
leaning towards banning Car Audio here, but would rather refer those
interested in that discussion to another echo. The original intent of
this echo as stated in the echo policy which will be posted along with
this, is to allow basically anything that makes a sound, not just high
end home systems, like live sound, recording, computer and other
generated sounds, etc.
Comments and discussion will be allowed on this "off topic" yet crutial
conversation until September 1, 1996 or until a Car Audio echo is
Elisted which ever comes first. Additionally, I will allow the Car Audio
folks to advertise their echo here to help get the number of nodes
carrying the echo higher, and whatever else that can be done to assist
their efforts. It is in the best interest of both audiences, which as
you so aptly stated is VERY different and incompatible as we have seen
over the last few months.

As Bonnie decides to censor THE growing segment of the Audio field...

I find it most interesting that the subjects of Recording and
Live Sound Reproduction will still be welcomed here, although
there currently is another echo for those topics.
Is this because these subjects encompass your main interest Bonnie?!
-
The way that many of you have been treating car audio resembles
what the older generation thought of the Beatles, or the
emergence of Rock and Roll. Believe it or not, Car Audio is NOT
the work of the devil, and you need not cower in fear for lack
of understanding, although there is apparently plenty of that.
-
I, for one, work in all three mediums: Home, Car, and Pro Sound,
and although I have NEVER agreed with over-bassed car audio
systems, it has been invaluable and helpful in teaching me about
loudspeaker building, the importance of power supplies, and
especially in noise control in pro-sound systems.
My knowledge would be much more limited if it were not for the
car audio medium. Frankly, with some of the attitudes here, I
find it amazing that you've been open-minded enough to learn to
use your computer.
-
Personally, I didn't care about the extended discussion on AC-3
that rambled on for months. And I do mean rambled! But I just
skipped most of the messages, and occasionally read some of the
lengthy ones, and tried to extract some good information from them.
-
I'm quite sure that when all of us started into any aspect of audio,
we all looked at the wrong specs as being important. Heck, I remember
thinking that because a tape deck door closed slowly, it must have
been a decent deck!
Not to mention, the thrill of having huge dual woofers in a pair
of tower speakers. (And they put out 200 watts. heh heh)
As I've said before in here, instead of critisizing and stereotyping
the "younger" or newer generation of audio buffs, let's see some
good information, and set them on the right track.
-
But no, instead we choose to censor and outlaw the discussion of
up and coming topics that can actually teach us something new, or
at least spark some new ideas.
If that's the case, then you can keep sending messages discussing
loudspeaker placement for years to come, while those of us who
are willing to discuss and learn from car audio, will have that
particular problem solved. As there is no place on earth more
difficult to place speakers than in a vehicle.

Subj: Da Rules!

Welcome to the International Fido-Net AUDIO echo! We hope you enjoy
this echo and visit us often. Some guidelines on this echo follow:
*- PURPOSE -*
The AUDIO echo is a topic limited message area intended to provide a
place for general discussion of sound, audio and acoustics except as
noted below including hi-fi, stereo, car stereo, walkmans, audio for
film/video, pro audio, sound reinforcement, recording, broadcasting,
sound synthesis, etc.
EXCEPTIONS AND LIMITATIONS:
 A. Any topic that does not fall within the PURPOSE as stated above
is deemed off-topic and should not be posted in the AUDIO echo. A
more appropriate place should be found on your calling system, a
lack of which does not justify placing an off-topic message here in
any instance.
 B. Definite NO's:
 1. Discussion of music, music releases, favorite groups - See MUSIC,
etc.
 2. Soundcard or MIDI topics (sound quality is on-topic) - See MIDI-NET
echos
 3. Commercial Ads, BBS ADS, music software (records, CDs, etc)
 4. General computer discussion unless related to audio or the echo
 5. Personal attacks because your views differ
 C. Comparison of equipment and techniques is encouraged, however,
keep it friendly and informative, not argumentative or "mine is better".
A piece of equipment that is ideal for someone may not be for you. Why
you think something sucks is often of more interest than that you think
something sucks, as an example.
 D. This echo has a wide spectrum of users with various levels of
experience, expertise and abilities. Respect and courtesy works well.
Accuracy of information is appreciated and encouraged.
 E. Distribution of this echo to other systems is encouraged, and
gating this echo to other networks is allowed, as long as I am
notified in advance, and that the Audio echo rules are followed.
FIDO-NET GUIDELINES:
 1. Fido-Net echos are messages that are written on one system, copied
then sent to all other systems around the world that carry this echo.
This is a public echo. Private messages are not allowed.
 2. As this particular echo is defined above, off topic messages are
"excessively annoying" by Fido-Net and as such empowers the moderator
to take appropriate steps. Free speech is welcome but keep on the topic.
 3. Flames, insults, and deliberate attempts to antagonize participants
will not be tolerated. Any activity involving illegal practices or
techniques do not belong here.
 4. Fido-Net is an amateur network, and as such, forbids commercial ads.
Buy/Sell type messages may be posted by individuals for indivuduals
only. Commercial enterprises must look elsewhere for free advertising.
 5. The moderator is the final authority of all echo matters. It is
her duty to determine suitability of messages, make policy decisions,
and monitor echo flow. If you have a policy complaint or suggestions,
directly route it to her at the address below. Policy talk by anyone
in the echo is off-topic. LET THE MODERATOR DO THE MODERATING, OK?
 PENALTY CLAUSE:
Anyone that fails to abide by these simple guidelines may find that
their sysop will be talking to them because they recieved a Netmail
from me outlining policy complaints and suggestions for corrections.
If the problem persists, or the sysop resists corrective action, the
sysop may find that similar messages to their Net or Zone Echo
Coordinator will be asking that the sysop's feed to this echo be cut
until such time as sysop or user is in compliance.
 SANITY CLAUSE:
Don't you know yet that there ain't no Sanity Clause???
