db> TCP/IP Without going commercial, there's the "Watcom TCP/IP" stack for DOS db> as I recall; never actually tried it, but it's sitting on the file db> server at the University. db> FTP NCSA's ol' FTP utility for DOS - doesn't require a separate TCP/IP db> stack, just a packet driver. Sounds good. Where can I get it? db> FTP is *not* the way to go for backups - if you want a TCP/IP solution, db> you'd be better off using NFS to mount the file system remotely; I am not db> aware of a freely available NFS client or server for DOS. AFAIK NFS = no fucking smiley. ie you lost me there. Anyway whats wrong with FTP? db> How are the two machines networked at the moment? One assumes that DOS is db> on the client, what about the server? What sort of networking software db> *and* hardware? The client is my laptop DOS & WFW 3.11. The server is one of our alphas with open vms using one of Digitals offerings. The network is just our office ethernet. At present I zip the stuff I want to back up then FTP it to my dir on the alpha. 200Mb takes about 15 mins to transfer. Rgds @EOT: --- Msgedsq 3.20* Origin: Abyss (3:711/934.28) SEEN-BY: 711/934 |
