At this point, both Dole and Clinton aren't officially the candidates in
their respective parties. Anything can happen in the 5 months between now
and the elections. Clinton might have to withdraw if they find something
they can definitely tie him to, or Dole if he suddenly has health
problems. Or if the Libertarians could talk Powell into endorsing their
platform and running, or ...

I *expect* (in the mathematical sense) that I'll be endorsing Dole late
in October and voting for him when the elections come around. Yes, you
can say he "appears to be the only chance to beat Clinton", and in fact I
would agree because you did say "appears". But I can't say that he will
be, and in practical terms I really hope we will have other, viable
alternatives by then.
I think you'll have to agree with that. You simply chose to play the
odds, I chose not to place my stake yet. Different responses to the same
perceived circumstances, that's all.
To tie it back to the original discussion - the NRA has to play the odds.
Sometimes it doesn't work out, and in that case many people will
criticize their decision. I will make different choices, but I am playing
a different game with the same objective. I recognize that, so I don't
criticize their choices most of the time.
