BA>> Hi James... One suggestion... Lose the Psychos... They are rated
BA>> very poorly by just about anyone who has ever ridden them (On a
BA>> great Web Site I have been to Ithink it is http://www.mtbr.com)
JK> I'm planning on getting a new set of tires for this summer...
JK> the Psychos did well enough in the snow... but I admit they are
JK> horrible for about everything else 'cept hard packed dirt.
I am still looking for the right snow tire. It seems that as soon as the snow
hits the tires, they fillup and I have two HUGE "snow-tires" with zero
traction.
BA>> My suggestion is to run don't walk to your nearest bike store and
BA>> snatch up a pair of velociraptors. These are great tires (there
BA>> are probably quite a few that are as good or better, but my
BA>> friends and I really like these). The back tire is like a paddle
BA>> wheel, great for grabbing and digging in on the uphill stuff.
JK> Yup those tires have more knobs left on them after wearing down
JK> for a year then most tires have brand new. I'm considering using them
JK> for this summer, but I'm also looking at a set of Vredestein
JK> Grinder/Slizer Tri-comp tires. They are supposed to good all around
JK> tires, and I think they would suit the type of terain I experiance
JK> here In Edmonton, AB ( yes a mountain biker in the praires...;) )
I took myself up on my own advice last week and bought a pair of V-raptors...
It feels good to have brand new tires all around!
BA>> (looking back at your post, it looks like you HAVE tried these...
BA>> What else have you tried and liked? What else would you say to
BA>> stay away from?)
JK> Yes I have tried velociraptors before, and they are good tires. I
JK> would recomend staying away from Maxxis Helter tires... they are too
JK> squarish for any serious turns and they give way without warning in
JK> any turns on hard pack. Other than that I don't really know too
JK> much... I'm still rather new to this sport, and I'm always learning.
Same here. After NOT biking for 12-15 years, (spent them
playing/working/learning computers) I bought my first mountain bike last
year... So much to learn and so little time to learn it all in. I have to
admit though it is kind of fun to try to keep track of all the new toys,
gadgets, tires, components etc that come out every other week (seemingly)...
