1237c9be9997 tech Hello Roy - TW>> Agree, Excellent Movie. And PT Barnum was Right, There IS TW>> a Sucker Born every Minute. But what can we expect. How TW>> many generations of Children have we Taught ,by Example, TW>> "Blind Greed" to??? CA>> Americans have much to regret and be ashamed of right here CA>> in our own country, yes. CA>> From my perspective the WWII veterans tend to have a CA>> monopoly on pure greed for greed's own sake. RJT> How many of those people would've been around during the RJT> great depression? To be of draft age at the onset of US involvement they would've been children raised during the depression. Many of who actually begain a final growth spurt while serving in the military once they had three good meals per day. :-) CA>> Boomers (what I am) are guilty of conspicuous consumption CA>> (waste) - we are the throwaway society. RJT> I get *really* tired of stuff not being made well enough RJT> to last. I'd rather get something that I can buy, and RJT> _keep_, and continue to use, rather than get "throwaway" RJT> stuff. Too often we don't have a choice, though, or we RJT> have a choice but the differences in pricing are absurd. RJT> I've grumbled often in here and elsewhere about how stuff RJT> isn't made as well as it might be, not made to last. I can RJT> buy a whole socket set for $9.95, or spend close to that RJT> for a single socket, one that I know is going to last for RJT> as long as I need it, and which comes with a lifetime RJT> warranty. This computer stuff seems to be as cheaply made RJT> as can be managed, with corners cut all over the place so RJT> that things bought new crap out on you just after the RJT> warranty expires, and you therefore need to buy more. All true but I remember parents having to plan ahead just to save and buy a phonograph or replace the existing radio. There was no 'impulse buying' of these things for most people. The death of a toaster was mourned by the entire family and a replacement didn't appear for some time until they could 'afford it'. Being able to "afford" things is an expression you don't hear often anymore, they use plastic and just buy it regardless. CA>> Gen Xers (my children) are just overwhelmed by the CA>> knowledge they have to fight their own parents and CA>> grandparents for every scrap. After that they seem CA>> oblivious to what they need and think they can just wait CA>> for all of us to die? RJT> The ones I am most personally acquainted with seem RJT> oblivious to RJT> it. Odd thing is that children mimmick their parents when they are too young to differentiate as to why mommy does what she does. Housewives on valium were the 'norm' in my time and many grew up thinking taking multiple 'naps' is just normal. I suspect the recent popularity of prosac and other drugs has done the same for today's children raised in households where parents are too drugged to have anxiety attacks over poverty or much of anything else. > > , , > o/ Charles.Angelich \o , > __o/ > / > USA, MI < \ __\__ ___ * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ...
