subject: Mimi`s whacko post.

~>> EC> That was established some time back. She did not say
~>> EC> "some" and she did not say "all."
You imported the "all."
 EC>
~>> I *TOLD* you that her comment had to be true for *ALL* or it was
~>> not true.

EC> And I told you that you were wrong. But I went further

Of course, you are the one who is wrong.

EC> than you were able to do, by explaining that she did not
EC> necessarily make a categorical statement about ALL DVDs and

Irrelevant since recordable DVDs are the only ones that apply to
 a discussion of recording DVDs.

 ...

~>> ~>> For a negative to be true in such a case it must be true for all
~>> ~>> elements of the set.

~>> EC> If it is made about "all elements of the set." You are

 ...

~>> Your ignorance of sets is pathetic.

EC> Yours, on the other hand, is widespread and indeed
EC> omnipresent. Did you ASK HER if she meant "all elements of
EC> the set?" Did you ASK HER if she included DVD-RWs as a
EC> "subset" of DVDs, or whether she considered DVDs to be what
 EC> MOST people call DVDs?

Again, your ignorance of sets is pathetic.

And, since the topic was a DVD recorder for recording TV
programs, and whether or not they can be erased and recorded
over, the only DVDs relevant are DVD-RWs.

EC> For DVDs, strictly defined, she was
EC> entirely correct. For all things that have the letter DVD
EC> somewhere in them, she was mostly correct. Most of them
EC> cannot be erased. Either way, your quibble and your
EC> desperate defense of it is hilarious.

Your desperate defense of Mimi's low-life attack on Ross would
be hilarious, if it wasn't so nauseating.

This is the critical part of the original exchange, with Mimi's
 disgusting attack starting it off.

MG>> and you're on welfare but have managed to acquire a dvd recorder.
 EH> Maybe
MG>> they're very cheap in WI, yeah, that must be it.

 ...

EH>> Why anyone would want a DVD recorder for their TV is a mystery.

Maybe to record a TV program. As I did earlier this evening, an
 episode of law and order.

MG> A good and valid point. Unlike video tape you can't erase
MG> or record over a dvd. Why *WOULD* someone want one?

Ah, Mimi the ignorant one. Ever hear of a rewritable DVD? I have
one sitting in front of me right now. Should I take a picture
 and email it to you?

My goodness, I just took a look at the directory, it's full of
videos. Dang! How did that happen?

Oh, and consider that no store around here sells VCRs anymore.
You can buy a combo VCR/DVD but they are expensive. A lot more
 than $50.

So, if you intend to record videos in the future, you better
plan on buying a DVD recorder. Or go for Blue Ray, which is
 several times as expensive.

 **************************************************************************

~>> EC> have been trumpeting for so long as her making an mistake
~>> EC> may have simply been the two of you using a different
~>> EC> vocabulary.

~>> It might have been to the twisted or the simple minded.

EC> That would be you doing the simple-minded twisting.

As posted above in the original material, my commentary has been
honest and on target. You are trying to twist the simple truth
 into a massive lie.

 ...

EC> Go to a store. Buy a movie on DVD. Take it home. Try to
EC> erase it. That's what most people consider to be a DVD.

If that is what you think Mimi was talking about, you are
expressing your contempt for her. So, you think she is truly
stupid. I have to give you that one.
