Well, okay.........but then you have to look at how many lives have been
saved, thanks to Mssrs. Ford and Wright. How many lives are saved by
ambulances; Flights for Life; organs airlifted from coast-to-coast; etc.
Life was pretty cheap in the horse & buggy era. Life expectancy was in the
mid forties, certainly not over fifty. World population in 1900 was less
than a billion, I believe. Today, it's over 5-billion. When I was a kid of
the 50's, it was 2-billion.
The literalness of what you said is true enough, I guess, but I don't grasp
your point. Like, you know.....I understand the family's grief whose
breadwinner gets killed on the freeway.....but I also understand the other
family's joy when the expectant mother gets to the hospital on time, or the
paramedics arrive at a cardiac arrest victim in time....blah....blah....blah.
I believe the truth of your statement to be far overshadowed by the truth of
mine. Nothing personal, though.....more like a cosmic truth versus a local
truth.
So WHAT drawbacks of the Internet am I not seeing, and what difference does
it make if I don't see them? Remember studying the dinosaurs? The ones with
a brain at each end? With inferior nervous systems?
Well.....communications and connectivity are one of three vital ingredients,
not only to basic survival, but also to a free society.
(The other two are self-defense and transportation or locomotion.)
As I recall......you are still mired in a herd of computers from the dinosaur
age....Radio Shack Color Computers, right? It would make sense that you are
against the development of the Internet....same as the Amish are against the
development of technoloogy and the Christian Scientists are against the
development of Medicine.
I can relate. I was mired in a brace of Apple IIe's between 1984-91. I
clung to those suckers about like you cling to your CoCo's...maybe worse. But
then one day, the thunder roared - the lightning flashed - the clouds parted,
and a voice bellowed out saying.......
Aw never mind.......
