BG> Very odd. I'd have expected 38400 to work just fine. Have you tried any
BG> other V.32terbo-capable modems yet, like David's or Poe's?
FM> No I haven't, and unlikely to do so now since *whatever* the problem
FM> was has now gone away. I'm sure 38400 does work OK, whatever happened on
FM> that connect was just another example of the intermittent.
BG> Looks like Paul's buggy USR has magically fixed itself then.
The only thing I can think of is the ROM change fixed it, and I
can't remember how long I had the 1995-07-18 ROMs for and whether
Frank had the problem then.
BG> Either that or he's finally figured out how to use it...
Yeah, thanks for that Bill, your suggestions on proper use of the
USR were very helpful, specifically:
1. Your phone line is stuffed (straight after the Spirit died) and
I need to move to another area.
2. Whenever you see a USR bug, you know you are going mad, since
there are no USR bugs, so quickly perform Ostrich Impersonations.
The last one in particular solved most of my USR problems, er
non-problems.
BG> The V.32bis connect was actually my fault, as I'd disabled V.8 (i.e. V.34).
BG> This means that you've been connecting perfectly with that heap-of-shit
BG> buggy USR of his without realising it.
BG> Wonder if the imminent NetComm will connect OK at V.32terbo? ROFL! :)
Wonder if the Netcomm will cost $200 more than a USR so that
Frank's local call can go a little faster, and I wonder if the
Netcomm will have 10 more problems than the USR. At this stage,
I only know of one problem. BFN. Paul.
