Hello Roy -

CA>> Even doing banking in person things can go wrong. My bank
CA>> lost a $954 deposit to my checking account once and began
CA>> bouncing my checks all over town. When they found the
CA>> missing deposit they never apologized nor would they
CA>> refund the bounced-check-charges they had withdrawn from
CA>> my account (over $150). I couldn't afford to take a day
CA>> off from work to sue them (I made more than that in one
CA>> day) and they got away with it. :-\

RJT> I would've at the very least changed banks, at that
RJT> point...

I closed all my accounts but that's not a great deal of
satisfaction. Then you have to start over with other people you
don't know.

RJT> And have. Maybe you couldn't take time away from work to
RJT> do that particular number, but complaining to real high up
RJT> in their corporate hierarchy, _in writing_, would've maybe
RJT> gotten you somewhere.

Nope, tried that. Couldn't even get them to write me a letter
explaining that the bounced checks weren't my fault. They
ruined my reputation with several stores and my landlord.

CA>> Another bank lost $15,000 of an account when my mother was
CA>> the executor of her brother's estate and they never
CA>> apologized either after finding their error. Having
CA>> deposit slips from the tellers was the only reason the
CA>> banks in question continued to search for the money.

RJT> That's one of the reasons I always use the "credit card"
RJT> function of what they gave me, rather than the "debit
RJT> card" where you punch in a PIN. In the case of each and
RJT> every transaction there's a bit of paper to prove what
RJT> went on one way or the other, and if there isn't then it's
RJT> not a valid transaction.

When I worked in a gas station I watched the people there
change credit card slips after the customer had driven away.
AFAIK they never got caught either.

CA>> They don't just agree with you because you have a deposit
CA>> slip in your hand either as many might think they would
CA>> have to. Can you imagine how you would convince them if
CA>> you had no deposit slips stamped by one of their employees?

RJT> That's the other reason I prefer to do things in person,
RJT> when it comes to banking. I don't even like going through
RJT> the drive-thru...

Was reading the other day that the authors of "DOOM" once
deposited a check for $5 million US at a drive through teller
window from inside their Ferrari. Funny.
