It's for people who need/want a large number of modems, but don't want the
external models chewing up so much desk space, and don't have enough spare
slots for all the internal models.
For example, we have a rack located at Werrington South (02/047 border) for
dial-in access to the University's LAN; it's a single box with dual power
supplies, and sixteen (16) ProRack SmartModem M7F cards. If you want more
than sixteen modems, you can add additional racks, all running off the one
terminal server.
PE> How many different Netcomm V34 modems are there...
The ones I can find are:
* NetComm Roadster 288
* NetComm CardModem V.34
* NetComm InModem 288
* NetComm SmartModem M11F{*}
* NetComm SmartModem M34F
* NetComm ProRack M11F{*}
* NetComm ProRack M34F
{*} There is an upgrade from V.FC to V.34 for M11F/E11F modems, but it costs
$159 (you return your modem to NetComm for the upgrade).
PE> ...and which one is the best?
I know people who have Roadster 288 and SmartModem M11F modems; I'm
certain that the M34F is still the best of the lot. It's still NetComm's
"flagship" product - not perfect, by any stretch of the
imagination.

M34F is the best of the lot.
