Pete,
One of the first birds I got was a wild caught from quarantine. I tried
and tried, and the bird relly never came around. He will "attack" if out of
the cage, but loves the security of his home, and have made sure that he has
large cage to be able to be there. He will give me kisses through the bars,
and whistles me a tune after I have...he's a delightful bird, but not able to
be handled. Now please consider such, it could happen to you, you may have a
bird that you won't be able to handle....will you keep it, and love it for
what he/she is, or will you get rid of it because it doesn't meet your
expectations? I have ten birds. 2 Macaws, 2 CAG's, 2 Amazon's, 1 Eclectus,
and a Grey Cheek Parakeet. Each have different personalities, and are loved
the same, the same training has been used on each one. My suggestion to you
is to get a just weened baby.....this way the baby can bond with YOU, and not
have to suffer through the seperation form another owner. Now granted I have
gotten really neat birds from people selling them in the paper, but knowing
what to look for comes with experience...I didn't have that when I first
started getting birds, and I doubt that most people really do.
