Yoo Hoo, Fidonet Disney EchoEARS!
The Disney Channel has changed its daytime programming as of the
first of March. The good news is that "Mouse Tracks", which is
about vintage Mickey and the classic Disney characters, is back on
at a watchable hour instead of the crack of dawn where the Disney
Channel had buried it.
You can watch "New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh at 9 am Easter/
8 am Central Monday through Fridays, and "Mouse Tracks" at 9:30 am
Eastern/8:30 am Central. "Adventures in Wonderland" follows at
10 am Eastern/9 am Central. Consult your local TV Guide or daily
newspaper listings for exact programming, times, days, and channel
assignment on your local cable system.
I don't know about the rest of the Disney Channel daytime schedule,
as I just discovered this little bit of it now and rushed to the
computer and modem to let you all know about it.
If you are receiving the new version of the Disney Channel Program
Guide the _daytime Monday through Friday_ listings are now
_OUTDATED_ in favor of the current program changes. I hate when
that happens. The nighttime prime time program schedule should be
intact.
Oh, and for those of who you like the Disney theme parks, the show
on the Disney Channel about them, "Inside Out", is now on at a
different time too: Saturdays and Sundays at (I think) 4:30 pm
Eastern/3:30 pm Central or it might be an hour earlier than that,
I just caught a brief glimpse of their "...now at a new time!!!..."
promotional blurb and didn't write it down.
If you want FREE Disney Channel Program Guide listings, call in
the United States 1-800-800-9709. What was known as the Disney
Channel Magazine is no longer being published, but the Program
Guide has all listings and descriptions. The bad news is that it
is no longer published for each US time zone, it is Eastern time
zone only so you have to be careful to allow for time zone
differences when setting your VCR or making TV viewing plans.
Calling that phone number gets you on the mailing list so it is
not necessary to keep calling. The current issue of the Program
Guide is February/March 1997, and the April/May 1997 issue will
be mailed out at around the end of March. You can also get
Disney Channel programming from their WWWW site on the Internet
www.disneychannel.com or from TV Guide or daily newspaper
listings. But the Disney Channel Program Guide is a very handy
and quick way to see what's on.
VCR Alert: Disney Channel in March is showing a lot of great
Disney movies, and other films as well. Just one month of selected
taping would save one money in buying/renting home videos. A few
of the many titles being shown (Disney and non-Disney): Oliver!
(letterboxed); Duck Tales, The Movie; Pete's Dragon; The Brave
Little Toaster; Guys and Dolls; The Great Muppet Caper; Dumbo;
Cinderella, The Muppet Movie; The Many Adventures of Winnie the
Pooh; A Goofy Movie; The Lion King; Tron; Darby O'Gill and the
Little People; Who Framed Roger Rabbit?; That Darn Cat (original
version that the remake now showing in theatres is based on);
Muppet Treasure Island; Robin Hood; Going My way; Mr. Hobbs Takes
a Vacation; Mary Poppins (I hear this title is about to go on
moratorium); Oklahoma!; The King and I and lots lots lots more!
An EXCELLENT documentary of two veteran Disney animators will be
shown ONLY ONCE all March on the Disney Channel. "Frank and Ollie"
will air Wednesday, March 5 at 9:30 pm Eastern/8:30 pm Central for
1:29:00. This profiles Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas who worked
on most of the classic Disney animated feature films and cartoons
and profiles their deep personal friendship. It played in art
house movie theatres in late 1995 through 1996 and is NOT on home
video. No bells and whistles, just a loving tribute to two
incredibly talented men who worked for Walt Disney and a good way
to learn how animation by hand is done and the creative process.
Lastly, Rich and I read in a TV/cable industry publication that
Disney is trying to negotiate with remaining cable companies to
allow the Disney Channel to change from being a premium service
subscribers pay extra for to being on a Basic or Super Basic
programming level. Some cable systems already offer this,
while for others Disney is still on the same level as HBO,
Showtime, etc. So lets keep our fingers crossed for "free"
Disney Channel.
Take care!
