Really?  Then you're not reading the medical journals, Jane.  I suggest
you talk to an orthopedist about how much verbage there is about the
care and treatment of fractures.  I suggest you talk to a rheumatologist
about how much verbage there is about the cause and treatment of 
autoimmune disorders.  The information available on Lupus, alone, would
totally eclipse the amount of information on alcoholism and addiction.  
Not to mention the other autoimmune disorders (arthritis, CFIDS, etc.)  
Then we can begin to talk about how much has been written about AIDS.
