| subject: | RE: Mimi`s whacko post. |
~> EC> That was established some time back. She did not say ~> EC> "some" and she did not say "all." You imported the "all." ~> I *TOLD* you that her comment had to be true for *ALL* or it was ~> not true. And I told you that you were wrong. But I went further than you were able to do, by explaining that she did not necessarily make a categorical statement about ALL DVDs and that you were therefore not justified in pretending that it WAS categorical. And I even went further than that, by pointing to some of YOUR statements that would also be wrong if one were to import the word "all" into them. ~> ~>> For a negative to be true in such a case it must be true for all ~> ~>> elements of the set. ~> EC> If it is made about "all elements of the set." You are ~> EC> spinning your wheels in your silly effort to come up with ~> EC> some way to quibble with her comment. And even WITHIN your ~> EC> quibble you are not doing it well, since your quibble also ~> EC> requires you to put dissimilar items (pre-pressed DVDs, ~> EC> DVD-Rs, and DVD-RWs) into the SAME "set" rather than ~> EC> different "sets." ~> Your ignorance of sets is pathetic. Yours, on the other hand, is widespread and indeed omnipresent. Did you ASK HER if she meant "all elements of the set?" Did you ASK HER if she included DVD-RWs as a "subset" of DVDs, or whether she considered DVDs to be what MOST people call DVDs? For DVDs, strictly defined, she was entirely correct. For all things that have the letter DVD somewhere in them, she was mostly correct. Most of them cannot be erased. Either way, your quibble and your desperate defense of it is hilarious. ~> EC> As Ross pointed out some time back, the ~> EC> usual meaning of "DVD" is the pre-pressed and uneraseable ~> EC> disk that one buys or rents with data already on it. ~> EC> DVD-RWs are significantly different from them. So what you ~> EC> have been trumpeting for so long as her making an mistake ~> EC> may have simply been the two of you using a different ~> EC> vocabulary. ~> It might have been to the twisted or the simple minded. That would be you doing the simple-minded twisting. ************************************************************************* ~> Mimi said it didn't make sense for Ross to record TV Shows on ~> DVDs because you can't erase and reuse DVDs. ************************************************************************** ~> In that context, which was the context, everything you have ~> offered in arguement is absurd. Go to a store. Buy a movie on DVD. Take it home. Try to erase it. That's what most people consider to be a DVD. Including most people who know of and use DVD-Rs and DVD-RWs, since if you told them you had bought a DVD they probably wouldn't even consider that it might have been a DVD-RW. It is your silly stretching to salvage your silly quibble that is absurd. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5a* Origin: FidoTel & QWK on the Web! www.fidotel.com (1:124/311) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 34/999 120/228 123/500 140/1 226/0 249/303 250/306 261/20 38 SEEN-BY: 261/100 1381 1404 1406 1418 266/1413 280/1027 320/119 396/45 633/260 SEEN-BY: 633/267 712/848 801/161 189 2222/700 2320/100 105 2905/0 @PATH: 124/311 140/1 261/38 633/260 267 |
