Yours, on the other hand, is widespread and indeed omnipresent.  Did you
ASK HER if she meant "all elements of the set?"  Did you ASK HER if she
included DVD-RWs as a "subset" of DVDs, or whether she considered DVDs to
be what MOST people call DVDs?  For DVDs, strictly defined, she was
entirely correct.  For all things that have the letter DVD somewhere in
them, she was mostly correct.  Most of them cannot be erased.  Either way,
your quibble and your desperate defense of it is hilarious.

Go to a store.  Buy a movie on DVD.  Take it home.  Try to erase it. 
That's what most people consider to be a DVD.  Including most people who
know of and use DVD-Rs and DVD-RWs, since if you told them you had bought a
DVD they probably wouldn't even consider that it might have been a DVD-RW.
 It is your silly stretching to salvage your silly quibble that is absurd.
