On the 23/02/96, Paul waffled to Dieter..

 Hello Paul,

DM> Your modem is stuffed - I can't get a decent connect anymore. It
DM> usually fails first, second or third time.

PE> As you will have seen, I crossposted the messages where I asked
PE> you all to test Netcomms BEFORE I bought a modem.

Morenlikely I didn't get around to reading LOCSYSOP until after
 you obtained your modem.

 PE> Despite what
PE> you arsewipes might think, I am a GENUINELY nice guy,

 Yeah, and politicians never lie.

PE> so I will endeavour my best to work with you to fix the
 PE> problem.

 We can but try.

So far, forcing 2400 connects have been better.

I've tried twice picking up mail, the first being:

 CARRIER 2400
         LAPM
         V42BIS
 CONNECT 2400

This appeared to give a fairly high error count, something about
 data packets being too long.

 The second connect:

 CARRIER 2400
         LAPM
         No Compression
 CONNECT 2400

was better, but was a very short mail pickup.

Unfortunately, Telix Logs seem to be deficient in detail, so it
is either a two-step process involving logging into TML as a
normal BBS call and seeing the extended result codes and then
logging in as a point to verify transmission problems; or a
single step process of bumping up each parameter at a time and
seeing a which point it fails, and then logging into TML as a
BBS and seeing the result codes. I'll probably chose the
 latter.

 Dieter
