It's low power (less then half watt) FM only. 
No AM, No sideband.

If you want that get a GMRS lisence and get the higher 
powered radios. 50 watt limit on the GMRS channels, 5 watt 
limit on the interstitials. The unlisenced service is 
limited to half watt on the interstitials.
