He's so sad :( veneson and Rabbit both have plenty of protien in them ... so I fail to see why this wouldn't be causing the sores as well. Protien is a must have for most animals, if you look at any cat food, you'll see that protien is very high on the list of ingredients. your cat may be depressed for many reasons, changing a cat's food will do that, I would consult the vet, (or perhaps a different vet, just for a second opinion) to see what he/she thinks.
