There's no "should" about it -- it's all personal preference!
I used to always get a 6-week-old kitten (grey tabby, for personality),
because they're just fresh from weaning, and old enough to use the
litter box, and find their food/water dish.
The key, to me, in getting one this age, was they are young and fresh
enough to adapt themselves to me, as my baby. . . :) (more trainable (I
like my cats to come when they're called) :)
My current cat I got as an adult (she was found after being hit by a
car), and I took her because she was described, to a "T", in the way I
wanted any of my cats to grow up (personality-wise), so I took a chance,
being she was already spayed & had shots(saving me the $$ needed to get
my pet to comply with my landlord's standards) :)
I've never regretted getting this one as an adult (she showed the Tabby
trait of intelligence well, in that she does know her own name now!) :)
Do you want:
-Cute
-Small
-More Teachable
-No habits(bad or otherwise) developed elsewhere
If so, then a kitten is what you want, and go for it!
Enjoy!
Do you want:
-Full Grown
-Any major problems already ID'd & fixed
-To have their own developed personality already
-Already-defined habits
If so, then a cates what you want, and go for it!
Enjoy!
