BA> Hi James... One suggestion... Lose the Psychos... They are rated very
BA> poorly by just about anyone who has ever ridden them (On a great Web
BA> Site I have been to Ithink it is http://www.mtbr.com)
I'm planning on getting a new set of tires for this summer... the
Psychos did well enough in the snow... but I admit they are horrible for
about everything else 'cept hard packed dirt.
BA> My suggestion is to run don't walk to your nearest bike store and
BA> snatch up a pair of velociraptors. These are great tires (there are
BA> probably quite a few that are as good or better, but my friends and I
BA> really like these). The back tire is like a paddle wheel, great for
BA> grabbing and digging in on the uphill stuff.
Yup those tires have more knobs left on them after wearing down for a
year then most tires have brand new. I'm considering using them for this
summer, but I'm also looking at a set of Vredestein Grinder/Slizer Tri-comp
tires. They are supposed to good all around tires, and I think they would
suit the type of terain I experiance here In Edmonton, AB ( yes a mountain
biker in the praires...;) )
BA> (looking back at your post, it looks like you HAVE tried these...
BA> What else have you tried and liked? What else would you say to stay
BA> away from?)
Yes I have tried velociraptors before, and they are good tires. I would
recomend staying away from Maxxis Helter tires... they are too squarish for
any serious turns and they give way without warning in any turns on hard
pack. Other than that I don't really know too much... I'm still rather new
to this sport, and I'm always learning.
BA> My experience with the Psychos (came stock on my trek) was that they
BA> offered little control, they were poor at grabbing when I needed it
BA> over some technical UPhill stuff like rocks or roots etc, and they
BA> wore out FAST.
I'll agree to that. I avoid any loose gravel areas, because they chew the
tires up something fierce! And I'm noticing quite a bit of wear just from
daily commuting around town. But then again I do stunt quite a bit for
friends, and I love the squel of tires trying to get traction.
BA> Cheers!
Cheers to you! Jeers to Psycho!
