Hello Bonnie!
Wednesday July 24 1996, Bonnie Goodwin babbled to Greg Cobb:
->> The rules of this echo do not prohibit posts involving car audio.
-> Not at this moment, but if the Car Audio echo becomes a reality,
-> discussion here on that topic will be considered a duplication and
-> traffic on that refered to Car Audio.
Completely understandable. :)
-> Car Audio buffs may include audiophiles, but rarely does that seem the
-> case with a few exceptions the majority of the messages on that subject
-> here are inane at best. A quick scan of the last 1000 messages here will
-> show that to be the case. That's why I don't mind Car Audio taking that
-> discussion elsewhere, as there have been a number of regular
-> contributors and readers here getting tired of bass discussions to the
-> exclusion of anything else. I've taken a few snide and well deserved
-> comments at the car audio folks, too, without any guilt for doing so.
To be quite honest, I'm just as interested in learning the more technical
aspects of live sound engineering and the like. If I thought I could hang
with the engineers around here I'd be in that field and not in car audio. :)
-> I'm not impressed with the majority of "excellent" car sound systems at
-> all (except Matt's system which did much for a small investment and good
-> choices in components, which I have heard) and still believe that almost
-> any studio monitor in a fairly decent acoustical environment will do
-> much better.
I'll hang with you on this one. :) I've heard studio monitors and stage pa
that would completely embarrass some who have spent thousands on their
system. As for me, quality and not quantity.
-> That may be my opinion, but I'll stand by it. Any peak over about
-> 130dB is a total waste for any real world need.
I agree. My car has the potential to do 125 or so with no bottom end. That's
more than enough.
-> 162dB is the record??
That's SPL entirely.
-> There's a research facility that is designed to destroy materials in the
-> desert of Arizona that I think puts out 174dB. How many dB does it take
-> for a car to shake itself apart? Does anyone REALLY care? Sounds like
-> typical macho BS to me like having 2000 horsepower out of a VW bug. I'm
-> not impressed in the slightest. I'm suprised that anyone with any degree
-> of intelligence is.
Heh! I believe instead of some customers actually having a grip on the more
technical side of it they're just interested in out-doing the next guy. It's
competition. Most people will sell what they have when they achieve
homeostasis or "get their rush" so to speak. Personally, I'll sell 16 15s to
anyone who wants them but I couldn't see myself buying something like that.
BTW, I had a bug and wish I could have had about 500 HP out of it!
