Use Alt-O to configure in Telix, and turn on the usage log by
default, in General Options. Either that, or in the script...

usagelog("telix.use"); will open the usage log in the telix.use
file if it is valid. It returns-1 for errors, zero for okay.

usagelog("*CLOSE*"); closes it, if it is open.

usage_stat(); returns true if open, zero if not.

Bob
