AN>Has anyone ever heard or has seen a GREEN cocktiel? A guy at work says he
AN>has a female green tiel with the normal red patches. I have never ever
een
AN>such colours! He is suppose to bring me a photo of her -- i can't wait!
Is
AN>this guy in fact colour blind or is there such a thing?
Some female cockatiels have a yellowish overtone to their grey feathers.
This is usually caused by either being incredibly dirty, or by a
nutritional supplement that caused the yellow to be too strongly
produced in the feather coloration during formation.
Back when I was really new at handfeeding, I raised an entire clutch of
ugly dull olive green baby cockatiels. It wasn't until their first molts
after they left here that I realized the color was caused by some strong
beta-carotene-containing vitamin supplement a breeder friend told me to
put in their handfeeding formula. Once off the vitamin supplement, their
next feather growth was normal grey like it should have been.
Sorry, no there IS not such thing as a truly green cockatiel!
