I don't think this is a valid objection. You could make the same point
about leaving the leagues alone. Some years, you are going to be in a
tough division, and a very good record will not be good enough for first
place. Other years, you will be in a very weak division and you could get
into the playoffs with a record barely over .500. Restructuring neither
accentuates nor alleviates this problem.
... Taglines are irrelevant. You will be assimilated into the Blue Wave.
