Been there, done that, got the glasses.  When I was as young as you are, I 
had to have my roomate come into the shack and read color codes on those tiny 
1/4watt resistors.  When I finally visited an Opthmologist, he asked me what 
the trouble was.  I told him my arms were too short.  He looked puzzled and 
then asked me what I meant by that.  I told him that everything I wanted to 
read had to be held out at arms length to be able to focus on the print.  He 
asked me how old I was and when i said 42, he said;  "OH, well welcome to the 
club!"
He was a ham too, but it's been so long ago, I've forgotten what he told me 
his call was, K6 something or other..
