Actually Nat, I'm going to disgree with you on that point. I do
believe AF1 is the code name for the particular Boeing VC-135 that the
president uses for everything besides his dates. AF1 is laid out quite
differently from a MMEL point than a standard B-707 or VC-135. Whether
or not they've upgraded to a B747, I'm not sure. The only modified B-747
in my copy of Jane's are the four E-4B Kneecap National Emergency Command
Post Aircraft. (94 crew on 3 decks, 5 mile trailing wire antenna (VLF) in
dorsal pod.)
If the president needs to transfer to another aircraft, it's possible
the Secret Service might assign it a proxy code name, but not AF1. I'm going
to look that one up next time I "paddle the Net" and see what barks.
