Well, the probes on these "cheapies" tend to oxidise (tarnish) rapidly
(looks like one element is aluminum - takes only a few minutes for an
invisible layer of Al oxide to form) but, if you polish it with a towel
before dipping in the liquid it should be more accurate (in the time
since my last message both of mine have tarnished enough to read 5-6
instead of approx 3). Try polishing the probe and see if the reading is
more accurate (BTW soil readings should be more accurate as the abrasion
would tend to remove tarnish)
