And so it came to pass, on 22-07-96 19:57,
that Greg Cobb spake unto Matt Ion:
GC> Heh! I'd hang onto those if I were you. The closest thing I've
GC> seen that were close to those were the Cerwin-Vegas I have.
GC> Altec-lansing makes some extremely clean speakers, but they just
GC> aren't hitting on the right freqs for me.
The way I had to install them, they're decent, but don't particularly kick
ass to the point that would lead me to such a glowing testimonial. I'll have
to trust that I'll understand your enthusiasm more should I ever get them
into a proper installation :)
GC> And I'm familiar with the Hondas. I've had customers come in and
GC> want 6x9s put in the place of the OEM speakers!
Good grief, that's some SERIOUS shoe-horning.
Did I mention that my T-60s are covered by the Accord's *factory grilles*? =)
Put simply, I wound up building up the forward side of the ring structures
with two layers of 3/8" foam weatherstrip (that stick-on stuff that you can
get in rolls at any car-accessories place), then mounting them from below.
The tweeters I'm running with them (2" cones from an old set of cheapie
Realistic home speakers -- what the hey, they sound real smoooooooth!) were
mounted on top of the factory mount's main component (where the OEM drivers
would normally mount), the grille then screwed on normally from below, and
the whole assembly fastened to the deck normally. The woofers were then
slung with 3" drywall screws from below as well. It's ugly, but it does the
trick!
Now, if I could just figure out a way to put these Quart 2016s in those
factory mounts instead... muahahaha.
