Mulling over Donald Tidmore to Steve Asher 02 Aug 2004 Hi Donald... >> You can get copy of lord406.zip from the >> www.nightfallgames.com/files/ web-site, from its Programs >> directory. > I will check it out. Hmm... I tried that address, but no lord406.zip, but a google search did locate it elsewhere. DT> One thing I ought to mention is that I patched my personal copies DT> of the LORD version archives a couple of years ago when I got into DT> Lord game playing again. At a later time, the Lordlegacy site was DT> closed down permanently by Preslar, and there was at DT> that time, no central location to obtain Lord programs from any DT> more. Michael Everett and I discussed that situation and he DT> offered to host a new Lord Archives site, and I took care of DT> posting my entire, non-private, Lord collection to the new server, DT> which is http://www.nightfallgames.com/files/ . DT> That included my personal copies of the Lord versions. So when DT> someone gets those files, they don't have to mess with DT> rte200 patching themselves, since those lord versions are already DT> patched. DT> I noticed that you run DOS apps under OS/2. Unless things changed DT> since the last time Preslar told me anything on situation, there DT> will never be an OS/2 version of LORD. For the simple reason, that DT> as I understand things, Metropolis Gameport would not authorize DT> work on an OS/2 Lord since they saw no sign of a large customer DT> base there. I'm quite content just to let the BBS continue to run as a DOS program; I found it too much hassle to set up the Maximus OS/2 version to coexist with DOS doors etc when I moved it to OS/2 some years ago. > The current ones are: Barak's House V2.02; Players Market V0.13 (patched); >The Jeweller V1.2 (patched); TimeLord V1.0b (patched); Marty's >Mercantile V2.2 > Outlands Tavern V1.5a & The Pawnshop V3.40. DT> Regarding those IGMs, Players Market and TimeLord are abandoned DT> status igms, whose authors could not be located. Seth Able DT> created Barak's House and allows its support to be handled by DT> Bryan Turner, at my request. (snip) DT> The other igms still in beta are Violet's Cottage II, which I need DT> to get finished up this week and released officially. Hiding in DT> the Shadows is nearly ready for 2.00 release. Lord Cavern 1.6c DT> beta is fully updated now, along with RHP Toolkit 1.6c DT> beta. But they won't be released officially until I'm able to DT> release O.Tavern also. The LORD FDN is still connected here, & a few IGMs have arrived in the last year, & I will check out anything that arrives in future. > former & new users telnetting to play LORD etc. I registered Lord with > Seth 9 years ago, & recently sent off a money order to Metropolis / > Gameport for Lord 2 & Planets:TEOS, but no response yet ) DT> again anytime soon. As for Gameport stuff, when I got my DT> registration for Lord, about two years ago, they sent it to me in DT> about a week's time. If you don't get something by the end of a DT> week, I suggest you follow through with registered mail DT> letter to the company asking them why they are not sending you your DT> reg. codes. It is into the fourth week now, so I will contact them if I hear nothing in the next few days. I'm not so worried about Lord II, as it is not as active as Lord, but I do want Planets registered fairly soon, as it has quite a few features disabled. I always enjoyed Starquest on TBBS systems, & Planets gameplay is reasonably close to that, & there are a few users playing, despite the limitations. DT> And you might carbon copy the letter to the Federal DT> Trade Commission - it never hurts to have the FTC aware of DT> companies that may be screwing the consumer in an interstate DT> commerce situation. I continually hope someday that someone will DT> buy Lord from them, and give it the full attention it really DT> deserves. I can understand Gameport not worrying too much about doors, if they are not a core product, but it is in their interest to respond promptly, as most shareware authors (including Seth) have in the past. DT> BTW, I hope this message does not get duplicated. But as you've DT> probably noticed, this echo along with DoorGames echo, has a bad DT> tendency to duplicate messages from at least a dozen participants. I did notice I got 3 copies of your earlier message, but only the one this time. DT> Why that is, I have no idea. Not to worry.
