In one of the Time-Life books, I read this old Jewish story:
 
During the time Noah was on the ark, the Devil decided he would try to sink
the ark.
He turned himself into a mouse, and started chewing holes in the ark, letting
water in.
Noah couldn't figure out where all the holes were coming from, until he
finally saw the offending mouse.
He was furious, and threw his glove at it. The glove turned into the first
cat, and pounced on and ate the mouse, saving the ark from sinking.
However, due to the origin of the mouse, that's why all cats to this day
have a little bit of the Devil in them.
