If they damage a tree, does anyone know of a good (preferably safe)
method of getting rid of them? They're cocooning a couple of trees
in our backyard.
So far as I know, they only eat the leaves. We had an infestation up
north some time ago, where they ate everything in sight. They'd strip
a whole tree almost overnight. The leaves did come back.
There is a natural enemy that you can spray. I think it's called Bacillus
Thurengesis. Dunno if it's sold around here. I saw a couple bottles at
Big Lots last year. Must have gotten them from a business that went belly
up.
Good luck
