   What a coincidence.  I just spent a couple hours doing just that today on 
my 1988 Carver.  Marine stores sell vinyl repair kits.  The "kit" is mainly a 
tube of special glue.  It looks a little better when done, but not great.  
The main thing is that it stops the tear from getting worse.
