Hello Michael,
ML> Welcome to the echo - thanks for stopping by. We hope you
ML> find something interesting here and can stay for a while.
Myself, I'm not much of a foodie. I'm primarily on a self administered
plant-based eating plan for a little over 2 years now, and am much better for
it. No milk. No sugar. No processed or packaged foods. No bread. No
canola/vegetable oils other than quality olive oil. Meat = occasional chicken,
eggs.
AA>> Some vintage recipes from the late 1800's and early 1900's
AA>> are posted here: http://wellandhistory.ca
ML> ..I've described us in this echo as a kind of arriere-
ML> garde, so we're likely more interested in your efforts than
ML> the general public.
Nice.
AA>> WellandHistory.ca is a site I've built and manage since
AA>> 2010 for a couple of people..
ML> Are you part of the local historical society? And how'd you
ML> become part of this project? In other words, tell us a
ML> little about yourself.
I am just helping with the project. When it started, I (we/they) had no idea
that it would grow to what it is today. It started with the nearly 10,000
obits/births/deaths/marriages clippings (all of which I've resized,
photo-corrected and posted). Then it grew to include the postcards and images
collection.
The two Wellanders were looking for help to start a website. As the content
grew, it was apparent that it needed to be split into two additional databases.
Ideally, I'd like to move the Postcards to a separate database of their own,
but it would require far too much work and time than I can manage. I've
customized it quite a bit with my own code.
The original design operates on an older Wordpress (WP) core. The same theme
would be difficult to port to a newer (maybe faster?) version of WP.
AA>> The site tends to load/respond a bit slow at this time. It
AA>> currently hosts over 4.5GIG of data (including photos)..
ML> Loading yesterday was rather slow, but after that initial
ML> logjam, things sped up to an acceptable pace.
The site is actually 3 separate databases:
[1] Main site (the one with the random photo banner).
[2] TALES = tales.wellandhistory.ca
[3] EVENTS = events.wellandhistory.ca
The slow part is [1]. I believe that it is the photo collection there that is
slowing things down.
When you clicked to read about the drunken cows (I too admit, that one is
pretty funny) you were taken to database [3].
ML> Home Made Salad Dressing
ML> 1 c mayonnaise 1/8 c tomato sauce (ketchup) enough milk to
ML> thin (approx 1/8 c)
ML> Mix the above in a small bowl and stir carefully until
ML> smooth.vAdd milk until mixture is as thin as you want. Pour
ML> over nice fresh salad.
Sorry.. but that pinky result does not appeal to me. :/ Reminds me of
calamine lotion that I used to help nurse my mom with shingles.
BTW.. why do your posts have a number in the subject line?
