| subject: | Re: VP/2 - really BAD docs |
Hej Timo! Wednesday May 15 1996, Timo Maier writes to Allan Mertner: >> + Super-fast 32-bit Optimised Compiler TM> Right! >> + High-quality Integrated Environment and Debugger TM> Right! >> Full access to the OS/2 API, including full online documentation TM> Just ONE example I picked out (could add a lot more): The PMREF guide certainly needs more work - we agree on that. The GPI and CP references are in a lot better shape, though. >> A lot of C syntax to change, isn't it? Agreed. However, we spend many months doing the work you see and weof course are working on finishing the rest as well. A decision was taken that it was a shortcoming we could live with for the moment, and released the product as you see it. TM> Hopefully fPrint will SOON release a new online help (INF + IDE) ... FOR TM> FREE! Of course. Upgrades to the INF and .VPH files will be made available. TM> I've never seen the SP/2 docs, but they CAN'T be worser. ))): They are different, certainly. Both docs are based on IBM's information from the toolkit. The VP docs contain everything from these docs, including the examples, syntax definitions, etc - although some of it is only partially converted. The SP docs contain Pascal examples for all of the calls, but with all of the "meat" of the examples removed, so it just shows the API call without all variable declarations and initialisation code. Neither approach is perfect, although I do find ours preferable. FWIW, Delphi 2 ships with all of the API documentation in C... :-( Yours, Allan Mertner --- GoldED 2.50.A0531+* Origin: Gravity is a myth: Earth Sucks!
