Stephen Frazier was seen kissing Large Marge and telling us:

SF> DH has to be called SOMETHING.
No, he isn't. First base has ALWAYS been the final resting spot for most
older outfielders. The DH has allowed the AL to keep them from putting them
there like they would in the past. LA has talked about moving Piazza to 1st.
Pete Rose finished his career at 1st. Stan Musial spent most of his later
years at 1st.
SF> Geez. You know it amazes me how you just overlook 29 homers in what
It amazes me how you can come up with that figure. Ruth hit 9 home runs when
he was used EXCLUSIVELY as a pitcher (121 games and 361 at bats). He hit
double figures in home runs when he played 59 game in the outfield, 13 at
first and 20 as a pitcher and he more than doubled that when he played 111
games in the outfield, 4 games at first and 17 as a pitcher. I seriously
doubt that AS A PITCHER, he hit 29 home runs during ANY 2 1/2 period during
that time. It's more likely that he hit 3-6 home runs when he moved away from
pitching, which would give him a total of 12-15 EXCLUSIVELY as a pitcher. Not
a bad total and apparently too much to waste as a pitcher. Had he been a
typical "hitter" as the rest of the pitchers of his time, it's doubtful that
they'd have moved him into the outfield.
