The install process itself is designed to:
- create/select the volume you likes to install the eCS system
- format the volume you likes to install the system
whereas the only filesystem possible currently is HPFS.
But while you have opening minilvm for create/select the installation
volume you can still create another volumes you needs.
The design is made simple to make it easy for very uneperienced users
to get the system installed.
If you are a bit more experienced:
at any time during the install process you can open a maintenance
console by pressing shift + F3.
There you can fire up lvm or minilvm by hand, format any volume, do
something else you may need.
As LVM may get confused on creating standard and extended partions
when creating volumes on not existent partitons I found that one
simply can:
0. create bootmanager
1. change LVM into physical view
2. create any primary partiton
3. create any logical partion
4. change LVM into logical view and create volumes from existent
partitons to assign the right partition to the right volume.
instead to create volumes directly. As this intermediate steps gives
you more control about the physical laysout of the disk.
You'll go ever this step when you have to create partitons for other
systems than only eCS, because you must be sure that C: and /boot are
primary partitons and in the right order. You don't need this step
when you've only eCS to install.
When your disk is already partitoned well but NOT already LVM aware it
lefts on you to make volumes from any partion eCS (or BM) should see
to assign a drive letter to it.
By that: when you boots from eCS CD you can in the preboot stage
define that you don't like to install but maintenance. So you changes
the default boot from 'install' to 'maintenance'. This saves you the
time needed to load up the installer but brings up the maintenance
console.
