Hi Justin;
May I suggest a project that your parents will thank you for for
years.
A solar batch water heater is easy to design, build, maintain, and
will provide years of free hot water, and most important, it can be
very cheap to construct. In fact, if you approach your parents with
the right plan, I'm sure they will underwrite your project.
I have built a unit from three used water heaters. Our family of four
get enough hot water out of these guys to meet all our needs for nine
months of the year. In fact, I shut down the water heater during this
time, since it is simply not needed. Once we had six adults and two
children (near teens) for a month, and we never ran out of hot water.
Solar batch water heaters are very "enviromental." And the real plus
is that this sort of project not only shows the 'science' of solar
radiation, but it also shows the economics that practically anyone
can have "free" hot water - usually under $100. This combination will
surely make this project a hit. Which make them a hit at school fairs
and the like.
But, before I go any further, you have to do a site survey. That is,
you have to determine whether there is a location that is available
and exposed to the sun enough to utilize the energy it provides.
If you have a place for one, and you want to go with this project,
then signel me back.
