RF> Well I finally found something that works perfect for my child,
RF> Jeremy. Jeremy loves the computer, but in particuliar he loves Sim City
RF> 2000. This is a game in which you have to build a city with a mayors
RF> house, parks, train stations, houses, the whole bit. And you must make
RF> it interesting enough to have people move into your houses. He can
___-------------------------
RF> Another thing I liked about it is that his brother and sister sit with
RF> him sometimes and they kinda play together with it. Giving suggestions
RF> and stuff. This seems to be helping them get along better too.
RF> Anyway if any of you guys have a child that really likes computers and
RF> games I suggest you try it. Couldn't hurt. Except than both of you
RF> may be in competition for the computer.
I have used the Sega Genesis for this in the past, but his father lets him
play just about whenever to keep our son distracted. It has gotten to the
point that he obsesses about the Sega in his dreams, at school, playing in
the back yard. I regret that we have the darned thing! I have seen Sim City
but never bothered to pick up the box... I think I will now. Since my
son lost his lego about 2 months ago for refusing to clean it up and for
spitting the blocks out of his mouth at his sister. At least this way my
room stays neat and tidy! The learning games we have are not advanced
enough for our son (Math Rescue/Word Rescue) so maybe this will be the
neccessary distraction we ALL need. On top of all of that it looks like
we will be changing his meds... Cory's behaviour has been steadily deter-
iorating since before Christmas. Here we go again. I dread the weaning
off period. :( Cory is on Clonidine for ODD as well as Nortriptyline
for the ADHD. Lord knows what will be next since we have tried Ritalin (3
times), Pemoline, Imipramine, and Thioridazine. The problem Cory has had
with alot of meds is that he is hypersensitive to begin with, alot of the
meds exagerate this condition... which is why the Nortriptyline was chosen.
It doesn't play havoc with these sensitivities. Do you know of any children
who are taking prozac? What were the results? It is an option because I am
on it and it has worked wonderfully for me for 3 years now.
I'm gonna try the Uno and some other memory/concentration games too! Thanks
for the tips. :)
Take care,
Desiree
