When the first vaccine came out, my doctor at the time suspected that I
might have had a sub-acute case of the shingles already, so said that I
wouldn't need (possibly even shouldn't get) that shot... In the
meantime, the accepted wisdom changed to recommend the shot even if one
had already had had shingles, but by then, I was over 65, and getting it
paid for was jumping through hoops.... so I put it off. Then the
Shingrex came out, and the recommendation was for anyone over 50 to get
it... so it's been on my list of things to do "real soon now".... By the
time I'd decided that, the pharmacy had run out of the supply, as had
the manufacturer... and only recently has it become available again...
In the interim, I checked with my current doctor, and while he didn't
feel it was a priority, he has no issues with my going ahead and getting
it whenever... :)
