I was very young then, like not a teenager..

When I was a teenager, I used to have neighbors give me their broken lawn
mowers and used to disassemble the lawn mower engines, either Briggs and
Stratons or Tecumseh, and I made a working engine from 2 broken ones.

It never occurred to me or interested me as a teenager or adult to take
apart childrens toys.

Even so, as a kid, one of 6 kids, if I wanted my toys and for them to work,
I didnt really take them apart.

However you are a full grown 48yo male, one would think this is something
you outgrew 35+ years ago?

48 yo men generally arent attracted to childrens toys.
