 @@> "Goats and Sheep":

Thought some on an item you mentioned in a "Gorgias"
    exchange-

FM> I remain disposed, many times, to divide the world of people into
FM> the Socrates and the Callicratics. As Voegelin remarks, Socrates
FM> had warned in the earlier Platonic accounts of the trial and execution
FM> of Socrates that "others will come." In the Gorgias, "others" have
FM> come and the debate continues in all of its deadliness. I hope you
 FM> noted that.

FM> ....which Jesus is made to say, "depart from me, I never knew you
FM> to the goats who thought they were sheep."

Once I realized that a debate of *serious concern* had slipped
by me almost unnoticed, I thought we'd come back to it. Are you
saying that such a *FOCUSED* binary good/evil circumstance has
been and still is active (a war for the heart of man); that the
Socrates trial comes down through history as its metaphor-
....even that "the sons of evil and sons of darkness" is a very
REAL symbology, somewhat masked in the everyday of words? OR were
you just referring to "Plato v Sophist" then, and through the
ages? It was the word "deadly" that caught my attention ...and
     teases my confusion.....?

Whether I disagree or not is unimportant, but would appreciate
your- 'an extended take on it'. Until convinced otherwise, I
favor the skirmishes of our species more as natural in the design
(sort of "let the kids fight, they'll learn from it).

In the above context, I would wonder whether I qualify as
goat thinking myself a sheep, or a sheep thinking myself a goat,
or truly a goat thinking myself a goat ???

ALSO! As a somewhat critical element in my inquiry, my life
experiences are most lean on extremes. The people I've known
are most all gray, neither sheep nor goat. That Jesus and Plato
and the other "split em in two" thinkers can seemingly always be
dealing in extremes, ever leaves me thinking they live in
closets or have little understanding of a real world we live
our way through. Yes, there are some few saints and sinners
but they are so few as to be aberrations. *I think* MOST of
us are bits of this and that and beyond any simple convenience
     of binary goat/sheep measure........
