If they break, they are not following FTS-9, since all programs should
expect addresses that they don't understand. I don't see a real problem
"breaking" an application that already is broken.
I do see a problem with breaking an application that isn't broken though,
which would be the case if the 8-digit serial number stopped being an
8-digit serial number.
