I grabbed the beta of the 64k color driver, which was just released over
the weekend. Works like a charm! For me, the 256 color driver only
worked at 1024x768. The 64k color driver works for me at 640x480 and
800x600. I don't have enough video ram to go higher. I haven't heard of
this driver not working for anyone. It's infinately faster than the 256
color driver, and it's faster than the 16 color driver, too. Gradients
in GeoDraw look AWESOME, not the crap we're used to. But I did find a
few problems:
1) A few pixels occasionally get messed up until you place a window over
them and then move it off again.
2) When you move a window, the border flickers a lot more often and a
lot faster than normal with this driver
3) Doesn't work when running Ensemble under Windows 3.11 WG
4) Screen Dumper gets totally screwed. Dumping to a file doesn't work
anymore, and if you dump to the clipboard the colors get totally wacked.
5) Solitare looks like you're playing with a monocrome monitor.
Even with those flaws, the driver is well worth it. They're also working
on a 24bit color driver. It only works until July 30th though. Get it if
you can use it! If you email me at edwdig@bergen.gov I'll send it to you
immediately, as I'm keeping on the server for immediate access. Well
worth it! As as usual with GEOS, it's only about a 25k download, so it's
well worth it!
