Hello Roy -

TW>>> It gets even better. CompUSA has a CompUSA brand(usualy
TW>>> Maxtor or Western Digital)For $59.99 after a $50 Instant
TW>>> Rebate and a $40 mail in rebate.

RJT>> I tried, numerous times, to get on their site this
RJT>> afternoon. The idiot who decided that a color scheme
RJT>> involving a dark blue background and lighter blue
RJT>> lettering should be locked in a closet somewhere and
RJT>> given only a 300 baud modem! I tried and tried, multiple
RJT>> times, and never could get their page to finish loading.
RJT>> So these people wanna sell me stuff? :-)

WC>> Heh. Are you using a Netscape browser in Linux or going in
WC>> under Windows?

RJT> I'm using Konqueror under KDE, Netscape never got
RJT> installed, due to space considerations...

WC>> Shows dark blue and _slightly_ lighter blue on my Win 3.1
WC>> - NS Communicator 4.08 box as well and I felt exactly the
WC>> same way about it.

RJT> Idiots.

Went there using Opera v3.62 under W31 and the page wouldn't
finish loading. Using Netscape v4.08 the text is as described
with lighter blue on a blue background. Using IEx v6 or Mozilla
v1.3 I see either white text on a purple background or blue
text on a white background.

Looking at the source code for the page it has more
javascripting than HTML code. The most javascript I think I've
ever seen on one page. The problem with the never-ending
loading for Opera is the javascripting. The problem of blue on
blue coloring is the extensive use of CSS (Cascading Style
Sheets) which isn't very standardized across browser platforms
with only something like 4 or 5 CSS keywords being recognized
by all browsers.

WC>> I found I could use the mouse to highlight text and make
WC>> it legible. I've also had trouble with pages that never
WC>> finish loading on early Netscape releases.

WC>> No problem here now with Win 98 and IE 6.0

RJT> I had some software cdrom from a book that I went to
RJT> install, and what it did was to "upgrade" my default (from
RJT> the 98 cdrom) installation of IE from, I think, 4.0 to
RJT> 5.5? Damned if I'm gonna fire up that machine just to be
RJT> able to look at somebody's web site, though...

I don't care much for the CSS coding, never did. I don't even
agree with the 'concept' of using CSS but young webdesigners
seem to think it's the best of the best and won't drop it no
matter what.
