I forgot that you had one. Aren't they cute? I am feeding three right
now and their parents have finally recycled and are on two or three eggs
now. The little guys were stunted early and are about eight or nine
weeks old I think but look like six or seven. They looked about two
weeks old for three or four weeks. I think it was a combo of having to
pull them at about a week and I probably got some old handfeeding mix
that the nutrients had oxidized out of. I was using Exact that I had
bought in the fall/winter, and they just weren't getting any bigger.
Then I put them on Harrisons and they seemed to turn around. When we
finished the bag of it we had gotten in some fresh Exact and fresh
Pretty Bird Handfeeding mixes, added extra L. acidophilus and spirulina
and also a friend that raises palm 'toos offerred me some powdered
"instant ounces" and that really seemed to help. They seemed to grow by
the day.
They seem to be some of the most playful of conures. Ed compares them to
Lories because they hang by one foot and play all the time. I really
prefer them and white eyes to other aratingas such as mitreds and
cherryheads as they are not nearly as loud.
I also have some little blue crown conures and some little green cheeked
conures out in the nest, three of each. Another green cheeked is on
about 8 eggs; I am gonna foster out about half her eggs as she can't
raise them all. I also am waiting on some white eyed conures and maroon
bellieds to hatch, as well as Yellow Crowned and Mexican Redhead amazon
eggs that should hatch in the next two weeks.
