On the 27/02/96, Bob waffled to Paul..
Hello Bob,
DM> My last D/L (all 40 minutes {at}2400+errors) had a grunged CRC for
DM> one of the archives.
PE> Now THAT is disastrous.
BL> Paul... this is *stupid*! The NetComm can't be that bad.
Yeah ?
BL> If Dieter is getting ZModem errors at 2400, and even ZModem is
BL> failing, then there has to be something obviously stupid wrong - and
BL> probably at *his* end,
There is nothing wrong with my end. It works perfectly well all
of the time.
BL> seeing that it works perfectly well for most of
BL> us and *he's* the one with the crook ZModem. Bill's story about
BL> inferior lines does not apply to 2400 connects. It has to be something
BL> stupid. And obvious.
How do you explain that the Paul's first modem was nowhere near
as bad, at least I could get 50% connects, and elsewhere, except
for 3M, I have immediate and reliable connects. Bill's theory of
marginal lines at each end is feasible
PE> Ok, now you are calling with V42bis, which means the modems
PE> shouldn't have any errors. However, the fact that you are doing
PE> so many Zmodem retries suggests that there is a problem outside
PE> the modem.
BL> Exactly! Dieter's end is rooted, and it must be something clever if
BL> he's defeated ZModem too.
Considering I had an error condition every 30 seconds or so,
making around 80 retries during the 40 minute connect,
having only one bad failure is not so bad.
Dieter
