ANSI C is ANSI C under all platforms.  The code above is independent of the
operating system as you have presented it.

Pointers are declared and defined the same under OS/2, but are implemented
differently.  Under OS/2, 32-bit programs see 32-bit near pointers.  ANSI C
defines objects such as FILE* specifically in order to achieve independence
from the operating system.
